Wegmans gets Tysons Corner site for new store
Wegmans Food Markets has reached a preliminary agreement to bring a supermarket to Capital One’s expanding corporate headquarters site in Tysons Corner, Va., a spokeswoman for the bank told SN Monday.

Wegmans Food Markets has reached a preliminary agreement to bring a supermarket to Capital One’s expanding corporate headquarters site in Tysons Corner, Va., a spokeswoman for the bank told SN Monday. The store will be located at Capital One’s corporate campus at the Beltway and Route 123 and within one block of Metro commuter train stop.
The store, subject to various Fairfax County approvals, is expected to open in 2019.
Capital One said Wegmans approached the bank regarding the potential deal through Roadside Development, Washington. Roadside is currently in discussions to provide additional consulting services pertaining to the design of the site.
Wegmans, based in Rochester, N.Y., had previously sought to build a store at a neighboring site but that deal fell through last year.
“We have been looking for a site in Tyson’s Corner for some time,” Ralph Uttaro, Wegmans’ SVP of real estate said in a statement. “Capital One is creating a vibrant and exciting project, and we wanted to be involved. This will be an ideal place for Wegmans to deliver on our promise of incredible customer service, great quality and selection, and consistent low prices.”
The Capital One campus site is currently zoned to include nearly 5 million square feet of transit-oriented mixed-use development, which includes commercial, hotel, residential, retail and civic facilities. The Wegmans facility is expected to be around 80,000 square feet, smaller than its typical 120,000-square-foot units.

Wegmans currently operates a nearby store in Fairfax, Va.. It said it expects to open a new location in Alexandria, Va., on June 14.
