WinCo's Long Retires, Goddard Named CEO
BOISE, Idaho -- WinCo Foods here said Steven L. Goddard, president, has added the title of chief executive officer following the retirement of William D. Long.

BOISE, Idaho -- WinCo Foods here said Steven L. Goddard, president, has added the title of chief executive officer following the retirement of William D. Long. Long, 69, who headed the company since leading a buyout from the founding family in 1985, retired Dec. 31. The company said he will continue to serve as non-executive chairman. Goddard joined WinCo in May 1998 as vice president, produce, after working for more than 20 years in various produce-related positions at Kroger, Safeway and Food 4 Less. He was named president in October. In another change, Rich Charrier has succeeded Scott R. Preece as executive vice president and chief operating officer. Preece, 61, who also served as the company‘s vice chairman, retired in October after 30 years with WinCo. He will continue as the board‘s non-executive vice chairman. WinCo operates 54 discount supermarkets in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California and Nevada, with sales estimated at $2.7 billion.
