MAPLEVILLE, R.I. — Daniele International has recalled more than 1.2 million pounds of ready-to-eat Italian sausage products, including salami, because they may be contaminated with salmonella, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced.

FSIS discovered the contamination while conducting a separate investigation of the multistate outbreak of Salmonella montevideo that has been ongoing since July 2009. The strain of salmonella that led to this recall does not appear to be the same montevideo strain that led to the larger outbreak.
