Meijer Facility to Have Food Safety Audit
Meijer, Grand Rapids, Mich., is slated to have its first food manufacturing/warehousing facility undergo a level-three SQF (Safe Quality Food) certification audit at its Middlebury, Ind., deli/bakery facility this month, Robert Mooney, Meijer’s group vice president, distribution and manufacturing, told SN following a presentation on food safety he gave today.

PHOENIX — Meijer, Grand Rapids, Mich., is slated to have its first food manufacturing/warehousing facility undergo a level-three SQF (Safe Quality Food) certification audit at its Middlebury, Ind., deli/bakery facility this month, Robert Mooney, Meijer’s group vice president, distribution and manufacturing, told SN following a presentation on food safety he gave Monday.

The presentation took place Monday morning at the Supply Chain Conference here, sponsored by the FMI-GMA Trading Partner Alliance.
“We’ve been working on this for several months, going through all the documentation and training,” he said. Third-party auditing firm NSF will be inspecting the facility during a two- or three-day period to determine whether it will be SQF-certified.
Meijer has three other large food distribution/manufacturing facilities, one in Michigan and two in Ohio, that will be also be seeking SQF certification, Mooney said.
