Albertsons Cos. on Friday opened its highly anticipated flagship store in Boise, Idaho, touting a selection of fresh, local and specialty products and unique in-store features.

Located at 1218 S. Broadway Ave., the new concept store replaces a nearly 60-year-old Albertsons store that was located across the street, which was torn down in April. The new store serves as the first introduction to the retailer’s “next-generation” formats.

With a mission to provide a food getaway for customers, the $7.2 million, two-floor store features the retailer’s first in-store bar in Idaho, called Broadway on the Rocks, serving craft beer and restaurant-style meals for up to 200 people. The store also offers culinary events and classes, a restaurant-style food court and a concierge—a first in the Treasure Valley area—where shoppers can enlist catering and event planning services.

Veering from Albertsons’ traditional product assortment, the Broadway store boasts a selection of local and international items, organic fresh produce and a deli department featuring smoked meats and specialty cheeses, including its own house-made mozzarella.

With a focus on high-quality and homemade foods, the store’s meat department features house-made sausage, dry-aged beef and local and USDA-certified and organic options, as well as sustainable seafood choices. The artisan bakery offers scratch-made breads and pastries, specialty desserts, gelato and chocolates.

Also new is the store’s “Living Well” section, featuring an in-store pharmacy and holistic, natural and organic health and beauty products, plus an in-store expert to educate and guide shoppers on their purchases.

The retailer is hosting a grand opening celebration from 9:15 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 21, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony, an in-store scavenger hunt, demos and samplings, prize giveaways, free ice cream cones, a photo booth, a “Kiddie Corner” and live music at a main stage as well as at the bar located upstairs.
