Aldi cuts prices on 250 items

Aldi’s summer plans don’t include travel but they do include lowering prices—which just might give shoppers a little extra vacation cash. 

As shoppers continue to trade down due to high food prices, the no-frills German discount grocery chain is cutting prices on over 250 items this summer, the Batavia, Illinois-based retailer said Thursday.

“We don’t want high grocery prices to get in the way of Americans doing what they love this summer, so we’re taking charge to champion value in a way that only Aldi can. We’re reducing our already low prices on some of the season’s most popular items to make sure summer plans aren’t disrupted,” said Dave Rinaldo, co-president at ALDI U.S., in a statement.

The new savings include items such as chicken tenders, granola, seafood and coffee, which are part of Aldi's Price Promise everyday low-price assortment.

Aldi said the price cuts will provide over $60 million in savings to shoppers.

“Whether our shoppers are traveling, heading to a game or enjoying time by the pool, we are committed to offering quality food and essentials at the lowest prices possible so they can enjoy life outside the grocery aisle,” Rinaldo added.

Combined with Aldi’s rapid store growth, these lower prices not only help shoppers in dealing with food price inflation, but also reveal the discount grocer is looking to grab something for itself—more shoppers.
