More Aldi stores are coming to New York.

The discount grocery chain, which is looking to have more than 2,400 stores nationwide by the end of the year, will open two new stores next Thursday in the Empire State. The first location will be at 75 NY 25A, Rocky Point on Long Island in the Crossroads Plaza East shopping center. Aldi now operates 12 stores on Long Island. The second store set to open next week will be at 500 North Greenbush Road in Renssleaer, a town located on the Hudson River directly opposite from the state capital of Albany.

“Our growth is led by our customers, and they continue to want more Aldi locations coast-to-coast,” Jason Hart, CEO of Aldi US, said in a recent press release.

The no-frills German discount grocery chain is eyeing other parts of New York as part of its growth plan for 2023, including its first store on Staten Island, the southernmost of New York City's five boroughs, later this year.

Last month, Aldi opened a store in Orchard Park, which is situated in an outer-ring suburb southeast of Buffalo, New York. The Orchard Park location is Aldi’s first store in the area.

Since coming to the U.S. six years ago, Lidl US, which is Aldi US's discount rival, has not experienced the same store growth.  Owned by the Schwarz Group, Lidl US on Sunday closed 11 of its grocery stores in the eastern part of the country.

The store closures follow the recent news of Lidl US opening a new store at 335 Eighth Ave. in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. The location marks Lidl’s second signed lease in Manhattan. Its first store opened in Harlem in February 2022.
