Aldi will open seven new stores in seven different states on Thursday, as the no-frills German discount grocery chain shows no signs of slowing its expansion pace.
The new locations are part of the company’s nationwide growth plan, which has seen more than 1,000 new Aldi store openings throughout the U.S. over the past decade. Aldi, which operates more than 2,200 stores across 38 states, opened and remodeled 139 locations in 2022, the company told WGB.
On Thursday, Aldi will hold ribbon cutting ceremonies for the following new stores:
2352 Morthland Dr., Valparaiso, Indiana
1300 MacDade Blvd., Woodlyn, Pennsylvania
6218 N. Kings Hwy, Alexandria, Virginia
37100 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, Ohio
10101 County Rd 48, Fairhope, Alabama
12255 Miramar Parkway, Miramar, Florida
7215 West 48th St., Fremont, Michigan
On Monday Jason Hart, CEO of Aldi U.S., issued an open letter on Aldi’s website titled “Our Continued Commitment to You.” In the letter, Hart writes that “despite inflation and rising food costs, we have worked harder than ever to maintain this commitment” and goes on to add that this “relentless dedication is why Aldi has been voted the No. 1 grocer in price by dunnhumby for the sixth year in a row.”
Aldi, which ranked last year as one of the fastest-growing grocers in the United States, has also upped its game for delivery of its grocery staples and cult favorites, as last-mile logistics provider DoorDash partnered with the discount grocer to offer on-demand delivery to nearly all Aldi locations across 38 states, DoorDash announced last week.
“By partnering with DoorDash, we can conveniently bring our award-winning, fresh and affordable groceries to even more of our customers’ doors with the click of a button,” said Scott Patton, VP of national buying at Aldi. “Whether shopping for a weekly grocery haul or in need of a few extra ingredients for tonight’s dinner, our customers now have another way to shop Aldi for all their grocery needs.”
With a business model that is “intentionally different,” the Batavia, Illinois-based chain announced last October that it has been working on a new online shopping portal that would drive shoppers through its own channels, rather than solely through third-party platforms.
“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier, and we’ve been voted the price leader for six years running,” said Heather Moore, Loxley regional VP for Aldi.
Founded in 1961, Aldi recently took the top spot as the most-trusted discount and small-format grocer, according to the 2023 Most Trusted Grocery Retailers in America list conducted by market research firm BrandSpark International in partnership with Winsight Grocery Business and Newsweek.
