Aldi has renovated two of its supermarkets in the Midwest and will reopen the doors of these upgraded stores on Thursday, the Batavia, Illinois-based discount grocer announced on Monday.
The stores, which are located in the Chicago suburb of Bellwood, Illinois, and the Cleveland suburb of Westlake, Ohio, feature a streamlined shopping experience and are part of an ongoing initiative to remodel and expand existing Aldi stores, the grocer said.
“We have invested in remodeling our stores to ensure they are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier,” said Corey Stucker, Hinckley regional vice president for Aldi.
The updated stores include an improved layout and refrigeration to accommodate the expanded fresh and convenient food selection.
Open ceilings and natural lighting have also been included in the renovations, along with the installation of new eco-friendly materials.
Aldi is readying to expand its store count in and around the city of Chicago.
In April, Aldi confirmed a new store location would be coming to another Chicago suburb.
“We are excited to share a store will be coming to La Grange Park early next year,” Heather McCarthy, division vice president, told WGB in April.
Aldi is also slated to open a new location later this year at Six Corners, a shopping district in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago's Northwest Side.
Illinois is the state with the highest number of Aldi stores, according to the discount grocer’s website, which lists 210 Illinois locations.
The discount grocer, which frequently opens multiple new stores per week, revealed plans to add a total of 120 new locations in 2023, bringing Aldi’s store count nationwide to more than 2,400 by the end of the year.
