Retailer-owned grocery co-op Allegiance Retail Services is expanding its New York-area supermarket footprint.

On Friday, the grocery co-op will host a grand opening for its newest banner: Super Foodtown in East Meadow, New York. The Nassau County store at 625 Merrick Avenue was previously occupied by a sports club.

The 15,000-square-foot store is a ground-up build by Mofeed (Mike) Said, an experienced grocer in the family-owned and operated grocery space. The store, which was a year-and-a-half in the making, also includes parking for over 100 cars, the company said in a statement.

“The area was underserved by full-service supermarkets,” according to Said. “We were thrilled to be able to build a supermarket in a community that offered few local options for quality groceries.”

Foodtown will feature grocery essentials in various departments, including produce, meat and seafood, as well as expanded retail foodservice offerings.

The new store also includes a full-service deli, bakery, cheese island and online shopping options available through the store itself and Instacart.

“To see our vision for this store come to fruition has been amazing. I don’t know who is more excited, us or the community,” he said.

Allegiance Retail Services Inc. is the marketing and merchandising cooperative for New York-area supermarkets such as Foodtown, Green Way Markets, Morton Williams, D’Agostino and Gristedes.

“Our independent grocers operate family-owned stores which feature products curated for the local population,” said John T. Derderian, president and COO, Allegiance Retail Services. “Mike’s store exemplifies the strength of our cooperative–local ownership, providing great products and service to consumers in their neighborhood. Shoppers will find a great selection in a beautifully designed and well-stocked store.”
