Amazon Fresh continues to expand its footprint and its Just Walk Out technology in the Midwest, with the opening of its newest store at 6939 Dempster St. in Morton Grove, Ill. The approximately 35,000-square-foot Morton Grove location is the sixth Amazon Fresh store to open in the state.

Stores featuring the Seattle-based Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology give shoppers the option to skip the checkout line. Customers can also use a traditional checkout lane, staffed by employees.

Customers who opt for Just Walk Out shopping enter the store by scanning the In-Store QR code in their Amazon app to open the Just Walk Out gates. Once inside the store, customers can shop as they normally would. Anything they take off the shelf is automatically added to their virtual cart, and anything put back on the shelf comes out of their virtual cart. At the end of their trip, customers shopping with the Just Walk Out experience scan the In-Store QR code in their Amazon app again to exit.

The new Amazon Fresh offers the chain’s trademark assortment of 365 by Whole Foods Market organics, alongside national brands, fresh produce, meat, seafood and array of prepared foods made fresh in-store every day. From fresh-baked bread and made-to-order pizzas to rotisserie chickens and hot sandwiches like brisket panini, shoppers will find an assortment of ready-to-eat options.

Local brands like Revolution Brewing and Lillie’s Q BBQ sauce are also in-store in Morton Grove, as are products like Duke’s Mayo and Boston Chowda. Customers can also shop Amazon-exclusive brands such as Aplenty and Cursive.

Touting its everyday low prices, Amazon Fresh Morton Grove offers 15-cent bananas, 89-cent freshly baked bread, freshly baked pizza slices for $1.79, and $4.97 rotisserie chickens.

To celebrate the Morton Grove location’s grand opening prior to Thanksgiving, the store is also offering special deals and discounts including Butterball Premium All-Natural Frozen Turkeys for 99 cents a pound, Organic Sugar Pie Pumpkins for $2.29 each, and 1.5-pound packs of Wright Brand Hickory Thick Cut Real Wood Smoked Bacon for $7.99.

Customers shopping the Morton Grove location can also take advantage of a coupon for $10 off an order of $20 or more, or $20 off an order of $50 or more found in their weekly Amazon Fresh circular for shopping trips made at the store until Thanksgiving Day. Customers may use the paper coupon at the Just Walk Out exit or at the traditional checkout.

The store’s other tech-driven conveniences include the Amazon Dash Cart that allows shoppers to skip the checkout line, new Alexa features to help customers manage their shopping lists and better navigate the aisles, as well as Order Ahead for service counters, says the company. The new Amazon Fresh also offers free, same-day delivery and pick-up for Prime members.

The Morton Grove Amazon Fresh is also offering jobs at a starting wage of $15 an hour.
