Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets is expanding its Chicago-area footprint with two new store openings in the next few months, CEO Robertino Presta told WGB.

The family-owned Caputo’s new locations will be at 4400 North Harlem Ave. in the village of Norridge, an enclave within the Windy City, and in the Chicago suburb of Mt. Prospect, where the store will occupy the ground-level retail space of the Maple Street Lofts 192-unit apartment development located at 207 S. Maple St. The Mt. Prospect location is an urban store and is 15,000 square feet. It held a hiring event last Thursday, though an official opening date has not been announced.

The Norridge location has faced supply chain issues in refrigeration parts, prompting delays in its grand opening, Presta said.

The 40,000-square-foot-store in Norridge features an eye-catching exterior by Peter Theodore, architect-designer at Camburas and Theodore Architects.

“The outside is meant to resemble the rolling hillsides of Italy,” Presta told WGB. “The design was also to blend the past, present and future generations.”

Fully owned and operated by the Angelo Caputo family since 1958, the independent grocery retailer now employs the third generation of its founder, Angelo Caputo.

The day-to-day operations are now handled by Angelo’s daughter, Antonella Caputo Presta, who serves as president, along with her husband, Robertino, and their children.

Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets, which offers grocery essentials in all departments, also carries a unique assortment of homemade baked goods, as well as specialty products sourced direct from Italy. The grocer now operates eight locations throughout Chicagoland.
