An opening date has been set for BJ’s Wholesale Club’s new concept club, a BJ’s Market in Warwick, R.I., that will serve as an “innovation lab,” where new product assortments, displays, product demonstrations and convenience initiatives will be tested.

The retailer announced April 29 that the new club will open May 6 at 375 East Ave. and be about half the size—43,000 square feet—of a typical BJ’s store.

“BJ’s Market will serve as an exciting new innovation lab for BJ’s Wholesale Club,” Bill Werner, EVP of strategy and development for Westborough, Mass.-based BJ’s, said in a release. “We are bringing the same great savings and value our members know and love but delivering a convenient location closer to home.”

While the new location will smaller in size, BJ’s said members will find the same pack sizes and pricing as BJ’s clubs. Offerings will include fresh foods, produce, sundries, seasonal products and BJ’s exclusive brands such as Wellsley Farms and Berkley Jensen. Curbside pickup, Express Pay and same-day delivery will also be available.

Existing members will have full access to BJ’s Market immediately. New members who sign up at BJ’s Market will have full access to all of BJ’s clubs and BJ’s gas stations, and can take advantage of a limited time membership offer—a one-year BJ’s Inner Circle membership for $25 or a one-year BJ’s Perks Rewards membership for $65—available through May 5.

BJ's Wholesale Club, which recently opened its second club in Pittsburgh on April 8, operates 227 clubs and 159 BJ's Gas locations in 17 states.
