Aldi opened a new location in Parrish, Florida, on Thursday, edging the discount grocer closer to having almost 2,300 locations nationwide.

The chain is expanding rapidly in Florida, opening stores in Miami and Coral Springs last month. The Batavia, Illinois-based company also has openings planned in Orlando and Orange City on Aug. 10.

The new store in Manatee County on Florida's Gulf Coast is located 8810 US 301 N. in the Creekside Commons shopping center.

“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier, and we’ve been voted the price leader for six years running,” said Matt Thon, Haines City regional vice president for Aldi, in a statement. "We’re excited to open our first Aldi store in Parrish and introduce local customers to a new, more affordable way of shopping.”

Aldi’s brick-and-mortar store count of 209 in Florida trails slightly behind Illinois, which boasts the most stores per state at 210, according to the company’s website.

Growth in Illinois is also part of Aldi’s strategic growth plan for 2023. Later this year, a new Aldi will open at Six Corners, a shopping district in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago's Northwest Side.

According to a report Thursday from local publication Block Club Chicago, shoppers at Aldi stores on Chicago’s North Side this week were unable to find grocery staples such as bread, dairy and other essentials.

Block Club Chicago reported that signs inside the stores were posted that read: “Due to technical supply chain issues, product availability may be temporarily limited. Our teams are working to replenish shelves as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

Aldi did not immediately respond to a WGB request for comment regarding the supply chain issues.
