Food Bazaar Supermarket, a family-owned grocer with over 30 stores in the New York metropolitan area, opened its first Manhattan location Thursday at the One East Harlem building. Located at 201 East 125th Street, the new store brings an array of international food offerings and low prices to the East Harlem neighborhood.
"We have had our eye on East Harlem for many years, and with this being our very first entry into the busy Manhattan market we are extremely excited to introduce our brand to the community. East Harlem shoppers will love our wide variety of fresh, authentic foods at affordable prices," said Edward Suh, EVP for Food Bazaar Supermarket, in a statement.
Food Bazaar is committed to working with community leaders and organizations to build partnerships that benefit local families and ensure that much-needed goods will get to the people who need it most in our neighborhoods, Suh said in a statement.
Passionate about supporting its local community, Food Bazaar regularly partners with numerous not-for-profit organizations by providing substantial food donations and hosting many community events year-round, the grocery retailer said in a statement.
Thursday’s grand opening ceremony included a large donation of food, which will be given to Templo Emmanuel in East Harlem run by pastor Cesar Cruz, which provides free meals to 800 families in need every third Saturday of the month, Food Bazaar Supermarket said in a statement.
"Food Bazaar brings this community a much-needed supermarket, creates nearly 150 new jobs and demonstrates the importance of small businesses helping drive the city’s economic recovery," said New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) President and CEO Andrew Kimball in a statement. "NYCEDC welcomes Food Bazaar to One East Harlem, and we are proud to have worked with the community to revitalize the 125th Street corridor and to see new tenants like the Food Bazaar opening their doors."
Focused on providing food and flavors that prompt a "back home" experience with its multicultural offerings for its shoppers, Food Bazaar said it will also offer a custom- cutting meat department, as well as full-service seafood, deli and bakery departments. The store includes a coffee bean and roastery department, a full-service cheese section and future plans are set to include a food court that will feature teriyaki, Korean fried chicken and gourmet coffee and donuts, the grocery retailer said. Online shopping and home delivery will now service most of Manhattan through Food Bazaar’s website and mobile app.
Food Bazaar Supermarket is a privately owned company of the Bogopa Service Corp. The company opened its first store in 1988.
