Retailer-owned grocery co-op Allegiance Retail Services (ARS) has added two New York-area supermarkets under its Foodtown banner, ARS announced on Tuesday.

The two locations, which are both in Brooklyn, New York, are: Foodtown of Metropolitan Avenue at 781 Metropolitan Ave., which previously operated as ARS banner Brooklyn Harvest Markets and Foodtown of Williamsburg at 159 N. 3rd St. Both stores are owned and operated by Fouad Elayyan.

"As additional supermarket banners push into the Northeast, we want the community to know that we are dedicated to bringing the highest-quality products at competitive price points,” said Elayyan in a statement. Foodtown brings to the community a “wide range of products, including expansive store brand products, along with a robust sales and promotional program. We want to unlock and provide some additional value to our customers in these inflationary times. Foodtown provides that enhanced value.”

Foodtown has served Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania for the past 68 years.

“We are certain the Foodtown banner will resonate well with the local customer base, as it does in other Brooklyn communities,” said John T. Derderian, president and COO of ARS, in a statement.

Earlier this year, the grocery co-op opened a Super Foodtown in East Meadow, New York. The Nassau County store at 625 Merrick Ave. was previously occupied by a sports club.

The 15,000-square-foot store is a ground-up build by Mofeed (Mike) Said, an experienced grocer in the family-owned and operated grocery space.

Iselin, New Jersey-based Allegiance Retail Services Inc. is the marketing and merchandising cooperative for New York-area supermarkets, which include Foodtown, Green Way Markets, Morton Williams, D’Agostino and Gristedes.
