Foodtown supermarket now open in Astoria, Queens

The ground-up build replaces a former Rite Aid store and features grocery essentials in various departments, including produce, meat and seafood, as well as expanded retail foodservice offerings.

Retailer-owned grocery co-op Allegiance Retail Services’ newest New York-area Foodtown supermarket is now open in Astoria, Queens.

On Friday, the grocery co-op held a grand opening for its 11,500-square-foot store located at 32-14 31st Street. The ground-up build replaces a former Rite Aid store and features grocery essentials in various departments, including produce, meat and seafood, as well as expanded retail foodservice offerings.

"We are looking forward to offering product lines that cater to everyone's cultural preferences and bringing a convenient and affordable shopping experience to the neighborhood," Rowhie Said, owner of the store, said in a statement. "We will also feature our own label of organic and natural lines of meat and produce."

Allegiance Retail Services Inc. is the marketing and merchandising cooperative for New York-area supermarkets such as Foodtown, Green Way Markets, Morton Williams, D’Agostino and Gristedes.
