Marking the one-year anniversary of  its entry into the private label wine space, Gelson's is partnering with Wine Spectrum’s “Winemaker of the Year” Julien Fayard on what will be his first collaboration with a supermarket brand.

In partnership with Fayard, the retailer will launch its first rose and additionally, will add its first cabernet sauvignon and a white Rhone “tribute” blend from vintner Doug Margerum to accompany its existing its five Santa Barbara County reds and chardonnay offerings.

The rose and cabernet will be available at a price point of $29.99, and the Rhone will be offered for $16.99. Gelson's will offer all three wines at a reduced price through mid-October and free samples will be available to shoppers starting Sept. 29.

John Bagan, chief merchandising officer for Gelson’s, praised Fayard as having a reputation that is "second to none, from his early work with Lafite Rothschild and Smith Haut Lafitte in his native France to the last dozen years earning respect across Napa Valley."

“Our team is always seeking out the best products from the best producers, and we are proud to augment our existing relationship with Doug Margerum with this new collaboration with Julien to add this elegant rose to our Gelson’s Wines collection," he said.

Faynard added that his mission to produce exceptional wines and determination "for excellence in all areas" resonates with "the long history of Gelson’s," and its customers who "appreciate the finest products."

"With its broad retail footprint, this initial collaboration with Gelson’s will help make superior quality rose available to thousands of people across Southern California," he said.
