Lyndhurst, New Jersey-based specialty grocer H Mart is steadily growing its store count nationwide.
The Korean grocery chain opened its fourth Massachusetts location in Boston’s Brookline neighborhood earlier this month at 1028 Beacon Street.
The 15,000-square-foot store will be a destination where customers can “truly enjoy good food for all,” H Mart President Brian Kwon said in a statement regarding the store’s grand opening.
The East Coast isn’t the only market the grocery retailer is eyeing for growth. The retailer, which specializes in East Asian groceries, is also looking to expand its brick-and-mortar footprint in Texas, Utah and Illinois.

Residents in Schaumburg, Illinois, which is located 30 miles outside Chicago, will soon have an H Mart, according to a “coming soon” banner on the Woodfield Plaza strip mall signage at 410 E. Golf Road, a retail corridor for the area.
H Mart did not immediately respond to a WGB request on the details of the new store coming to the area, but according to the Village of Schaumburg website, H Mart is listed with an opening date later this year.
H Mart is also capitalizing on the population growth underway in Texas. According to Census.gov, from 2000 to 2022, Texas gained close to 10 million new residents—a 43% increase in population.
The Asian grocer, which now operates six locations in Texas, will add another supermarket in Dallas at 2534 Royal Lane that will span over 142,888 square feet.
“We are expanding in Dallas and bringing our passion for Asian food culture to the community,” said Kwon.
The store will be in the city’s Koreatown neighborhood, which is in the northwest area of Dallas.
H Mart is also reportedly looking to open a new store in West Jordan, Utah, according to local media reports. The West Jordan store would be H Mart's first location in Utah.
H Mart is not the only ethnic grocer expanding its store footprint in Chicago’s popular sub-market of Schaumburg.

Chicago-based Joong Boo Market, an Asian-focused grocery retailer with stores in Chicago and in the suburb of Glenview, Illinois, will soon add Schaumburg to its store locations, which will be less than 1.5 miles from the new H Mart.
A sign saying “coming soon” is featured on the storefront at 1111 E. Golf Road. WGB reached out on Monday morning to Joong Bo Market’s Glenview, Illinois, location and was told the store would be opening “later this year.”
