Hannaford Supermarkets on Saturday opened a new 49,000-square-foot store in Brunswick, New York, at 9 Lord Ave. And on Monday, the Scarborough, Maine-based Hannaford announced it will open a 58,000-square-foot store in 2023 at the intersection of Payne Road and Route 114 in Scarborough to further its backyard expansion.
“All of us at Hannaford are tremendously excited to make our high-quality, fresh food and produce, convenient services such as Hannaford-To-Go, outstanding customer service and everyday low prices available to more shoppers in the Brunswick area,” said Hannaford Supermarkets VP of Retail Operations, Western Division Andrea Nickerson, in a statement regarding the Brunswick opening.
Located at the intersection of Route 7 (Hoosick Street) and Lord Avenue, the Brunswick store will include a hot and cold foods bar; grab-and-go meals; local products and produce; Hannaford To Go online ordering and delivery; and a full-service pharmacy with drive-thru.
Ready-to-eat items made on-site daily, include brick-oven pizza, a stir-fry station, hot breakfast sandwiches, and chef-crafted sushi, the grocer said. A fine-cheese counter with cheese cut on-site, as well as a walk-in beer cave are also featured at the store. The store includes a full-service pharmacy with a drive-thru, as well as ten self-checkout kiosks.
2023 Backyard Expansion
Readying its expansion for 2023, Hannaford will open a 58,000-square-foot store at the intersection of Payne Road and Route 114 in Scarborough. Though the retailer's Oak Hill Hannaford Supermarket and Pharmacy will remain open, the company is looking to deepen its ties with the community where it is headquartered.
The grocery retailer expects to begin construction on the new Scarborough location in early 2023, with a store open date in the summer of 2023.
“Growing our business in our own backyard is a huge point of pride. We look forward to making it even easier for Scarborough-area customers to do their grocery shopping for the week or pick up that one item they need,” said Todd Bullen, VP of operations for Hannaford Supermarkets. “We are proud to invest further in our state, bring new jobs to the area and strengthen our relationship with the community.”
The Payne Road Scarborough store will mark Hannaford’s 186th store when it opens, among 65 additional stores located in Maine. The company was founded in Portland in 1883 and is headquartered in Scarborough, Maine.
