HMart will be opening a second location in Austin, Texas.

The Asian supermarket chain signed a lease last Friday at North Loop Plaza, Derek Quinn, of Durhman & Bassett Realty Group, who represented the landlord in the transaction, confirmed to WGB.

The 23,171-square-foot store will occupy the anchor space at North Loop Plaza at 5222 Burnet Rd.

“It was a great opportunity for a larger retailer like HMart to come in and open in the central Austin area,” Quinn told WGB.

Looking to expand its store count in Texas, HMart now operates six stores in the Lone Star state, according to the grocer’s website, including its location at 11301 Lakeline Blvd. in Austin.

Last month, the Lyndhurst, New Jersey-based specialty grocer opened a new store on level 1 of the American Dream mall at 1 American Dream Way in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The grocery retailer also has plans to increase its presence in the Midwest with a new store set to open at 220 N. Broadway Ave., less than two miles from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus in Urbana, Illinois.

Established in New York in 1982 as Han Ah Reum (a Korean phrase meaning “arm full of groceries”), HMart now operates over 70 stores in 14 stores across the U.S.
