Hy-Vee is expanding its Scan & Go contactless checkout program, which debuted last year, to more of its stores, the grocery chain announced this week.

The self-scanning service, which runs on FutureProof Retail (FPR)'s Mobile Checkout Platform, launched at select Des Moines, Iowa, locations in 2021. Since then, it has been introduced in several dozen stores, with more on the way, the company said.

Hy-Vee's website lists approximately 38 stores, including markets in Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Kansas, that offer Hy-Vee’s Scan & Go mobile checkout technology. The chain has 285 locations.

“Hy-Vee set a new record in driving adoption at launch, especially in its new flagship stores,” said Will Hogben, CEO of FutureProof Retail, in a statement. “Hy-Vee is a leading innovator in retail technology and new store formats, and we are thrilled to be their partner for new checkout technologies.”

Founded in New York, FutureProof Retail Mobile Checkout Platform provides retailers with touch-free scan and go, and order-ahead solutions.

The technology lets customers  scan grocery items with their phones, pay in the app with a credit or debit card, and leave the store after scanning a QR code on their way out. There is also a feature that allows customers to weigh produce themselves on scales located within the produce department, and then scan the barcode on the scale screen or the printed label.

Additionally, customers are able to view their basket total at any time while they shop, and can bag items instantly while shopping using their reusable bags, or they can utilize the complimentary bagging stations near the mobile checkout kiosks.

The app also applies deals, promotions, coupons and perks to customers’ shopping baskets, and shoppers can earn Hy-Vee Fuel Saver Rewards as well.

Hy-Vee is an employee-owned company that has locations across eight Midwestern states.
