Locally owned Littleton’s Market will open a store in Upper Arlington, Ohio, in late 2022 pending renovations. The 2140 Tremont Center location on the northwest side of the city of Columbus used to house a UA Food Market grocery store, which closed in January.

With a goal of being a premier store for people who love food and wine, Littleton’s Market said it plans to continue to carry on a long tradition of locally owned groceries that began at Tremont Center in the 1950s and included Huffman’s Market, which filled the space for more than 30 years.

Leading Littleton’s Market is Rob Littleton and his father-in-law, Alan Scantland. Littleton spent countless hours at Huffman’s Market and Tremont Center growing up in Upper Arlington. He said his love of food, family and community drove his decision to continue the legacy of an independent local market in the heart of his hometown.

“I’ve spent my career focused on improving people’s health, and there are few things more important to well-being than the food we consume,” he said in a statement. “I am extremely excited to bring Littleton’s Market to life. In doing so, we will revive a tradition of community, family and fun through great food in the heart of Upper Arlington.”

Littleton’s Market said it will expand from the existing space by about 50%. The new store will have about 15,000 square feet of meat, seafood, produce and grocery items. There will also be an array of wine and beer, the company said. Fresh prepared foods, as well as breakfast, lunch and coffee, will be available in the store cafe, and gourmet options will be available for curbside and ready to serve.

James Williams, who began his career as a butcher with Huffman’s Market 33 years ago, will continue in his role at Littleton’s.

“I’m excited to say hello to the many friends I’ve made over the years and to share what we believe to be the best products along with the friendly and personal service I’ve prided myself on over my whole career,” James said in a statement. “From offering cooking advice to ordering special prime ribs and turkeys to celebrate the holidays or another special moment, my passion is getting to know my customers like friends.”

Looking to partner with local growers and producers, Littleton’s Market said it will carry ethically sourced products and that plans for reducing food waste and adhering to sustainable practices are core components of the business.

Designed by Andrew Rosenthal of GRA D Architects and Mary Dietsch Architects & Design, Littleton’s Market will feature a staffed center island offering freshly prepared foods centered under a 30-foot skylight that will provide natural light and an airy shopping experience, the grocer said.

In addition to cafe seating in the market, Littleton's Market said a new three-season outdoor pavilion will allow expanded seating, cookouts and events.
