Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer announced it will open two new supercenters in Northeast Ohio on April 18 as it continues to expand its presence in the area, Regional VP Tom Wilson said in a release.

The new stores will be located in Brunswick (at 3800 Center Road) and Canton (at 4866 Fulton Drive NW) and will have a floral area, garden center and adjacent Meijer Express gas stations, which will open March 31 for both stores. In addition to grocery offerings of fresh produce, baked goods, meats and deli, the stores will house a pharmacy and apparel, pets, electronics, toys and sports departments.

“It’s extremely exciting to continue expanding our presence in Northeast Ohio,” Wilson said. “Over the last two years, our store teams have helped families meet unprecedented challenges by providing fresh grocery options and supporting their pharmacy needs. Now we’re gearing up to bring our one-stop shopping experience to new communities in Brunswick and Canton.”

Since opening its first store in the Columbus area in 1981, Meijer has invested heavily in Ohio, most recently building a total of seven supercenters in the greater Cleveland, Akron and Youngstown areas. And in December 2021, Meijer broke ground on a new grocery market as part of the Fairfax Market mixed-use project in partnership with the city of Cleveland, Cleveland Clinic, Fairfax Renaissance Development Corporation and Fairmount Properties. That 40,000-square-foot store could open as early as 2023, according to an earlier statement.

Additionally, Meijer in February opened its first fast-charging electric-vehicle stations through its partnership with EVgo at select stores in Michigan and Ohio, as part of its commitment to sustainability.

The retailer also maintains a distribution center and dairy processing facility in Tipp City, Ohio, employing more than 12,000 team members statewide. Meijer is currently seeking applicants to fill part- and full-time hourly positions for the Brunswick and Canton stores.

A privately-owned and family-operated company, Meijer operates 258 supercenters and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
