MOM's Organic Market will open its first store in New England this Friday.

Family owned and operated since 1987, the new store will be located in the Burlington Crossroads shopping center at 34 Cambridge St. in Burlington, Massachusetts, 30 minutes outside of Boston.

In celebration of the new store opening, five percent of Burlington’s opening weekend sales will go to the following local environmental organizations: Mystic River Watershed Alliance, Massachusetts Rivers Alliance, The Trustees, and Friends of the Fells.

The nearly 12,000-square-foot store will feature MOM’s Organic Market’s signature offerings, including 100% organic produce, organic bulk products and more.

“We are the only grocery store in the United States to offer 100% sustainable seafood, right down to canned tuna,” MOM’s Organic Market said in a statement.

The store will also feature sustainable insect proteins, along with a health and wellness section with organic vitamins and supplements, CBD, bulk organic herbs, zero-waste soaps as well as clean beauty products.

The new location will also include spices, tea and scrubs in bulk.

Looking to continue its sustainability efforts, the store will offer a recycling program for its shoppers. Cell phones, batteries, compost, shoes and other items can be recycled as part of the program. The store also plans to host annual recycling drives for denim and holiday lights and will maintain the company’s ban on plastic bags that has been in place since 2005.

MOM’s Organic Market does not allow products to target children with licensed cartoon characters on the package and, according to the grocery retailer’s website, it has banned “over 250 ingredients from its stores including artificial flavorings, colors, sweeteners as well as preservatives and hydrogenated oils.”

Founded by Scott Nash in his mom’s garage with an initial investment of $100, MOM’s Organic Market now operates over 20 stores in Washington, D.C., Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and, soon, Massachusetts.
