Mother’s Market & Kitchen recently debuted its first Los Angeles location in Signal Hill. Located at 2475 Cherry Ave., the 13,000-square-foot store will serve as the anchor for the developing Heritage Square Retail Center, boasting a contemporary format as well as organic, local and non-GMO produce and groceries.
The new location was designed to reflect the community and its values, featuring interior and exterior graphics that memorialize the origins of oil production and architecture in Signal Hill, according to Deborah Rubino, chief integration officer for Mother’s Market, based in Costa Mesa, Calif. “Mother’s Market & Kitchen in Signal Hill celebrates a fresh, contemporary style while embracing the history and legacy of Mother’s,” Rubino tells WGB.
The store’s interior boasts walls clad in natural wood and branded with the Mother’s Market logo, and the front windows were designed to span the entire elevation, offering a panoramic view of the community’s agricultural heritage and creating a “stunning stained-glass effect.” Overhead skylights provide “natural illumination to the design elements of galvanized metal, natural wood and the signature Mother’s colors,” Rubino says.
With a mission to “make healthy food accessible and affordable for everyone,” Mother’s Market aims to serve the health- and wellness-focused consumers of the Los Angeles community with its assortment of prepared items, plant-based foods, organic meats and sustainable seafood, as well as a variety of natural supplements and sports nutrition products.
New to the Signal Hill location is a free mobile ordering juice bar and cafe app that offers shoppers a 20% discount on their first cafe and juice bar purchase, appealing to the retailer’s loyal customer base—which is known to shop several times a day, particularly for juices and prepared foods.
“Health and wellness is a growing priority, and the Signal Hill community expressed a desire for an upscale natural market at this location,” says Rubino. “A growing awareness of the importance of health and wellness and requests for convenience inspired our extensive prepared food and juice selections made in Mother’s kitchen every day.”
The Signal Hill store—open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.—marks the retailer’s eighth location, and its first in the Los Angeles area, with plans for a second Los Angeles store slated to open this summer at 1700 Rosecrans Ave. in Manhattan Beach.
