National Co op Grocers (NCG) is growing ... again.

Last year, NCG added three new grocery store members to its board. This year, it is doing the same.

The following new grocery store members have been added to the group’s board: Purple Porch Food Co-op, located in South Bend, Indiana, two miles south of the University of Notre Dame, serves more than 1,000 member-owners and has annual sales of $1.2 million; Good Tern Co-op, located in Rockland, Maine, has been around for 40 years and operates a bagel shop in addition to its retail grocery store and serves more than 1,200 members with annual sales of $2.3 million; and Detroit People’s Food Co-op in Detroit, which was founded in 2010 and is now planning to open its first retail store in February.

“From an established co-op serving its community for generations, to a newer co-op located near an iconic location, and to a start-up co-op preparing to open its storefront, we are excited to support these co-ops as they seek to grow their impacts,” said C.E. Pugh, National Co op Grocers' CEO, in a statement.

With the addition of the above three, NCG's membership is now at 160 co-ops nationwide, operating 230 storefronts with sales in excess of $2.4 billion.

Founded in 1999, NCG is a business services cooperative for retail food co-ops located throughout the country. A certified B Corp., NCG provides the capacity of a chain grocer while maintaining the autonomy of each individual co-op.
