Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage has appointed Todd Dissinger as CFO, effective Jan. 1. Dissinger will assume the role from Sandra Buffa, who will retire effective Dec. 31.

Dissinger will report directly to Kemper Isely, chairman and co-president at Natural Grocers, based in Lakewood, Colo., and will oversee the retailer’s finance, accounting, treasury, financial planning and analysis, investor relations, project management office, internal audit and tax functions.

With more than 30 years of experience in finance and capital markets, Dissinger hails from an extensive background in financial planning and strategy, with a deep knowledge of the retail industry. He most recently served as VP and treasurer of Vitamin Cottage Natural Food Markets, Natural Grocers’ operating subsidiary, since August 2015.

"Todd's extensive public company finance experience, along with his understanding of Natural Grocers and strong background in the retail sector, are an ideal fit for Natural Grocers as the company continues to grow," said Isely in a statement. "He brings a rigorous and proactive approach to the CFO role, combined with strong management and strategic skills."

Previously, Dissinger served as SVP, treasurer, risk management and credit at The Bon-Ton Stores, a department store chain, from 1997 to August 2015, where he managed the company’s capital structure strategies, credit arrangements, treasury operations, financial forecasting and risk management. Prior to that, Dissinger served as VP, senior relationship manager at PNC Bank. He holds a B.S. and MBA degree from Widener University.

Buffa has served has Natural Grocers’ CFO since 2008, and previously served as CFO at QCE, the parent company of the Quizno’s restaurant chain.
