Natural Grocers Tackles Hunger in Texas

With recent winter storms putting many in Texas in peril, Natural Grocers is planning to celebrate the Lone Star State and its residents’ resilience during Texas Independence Day at its 25 stores across the state. Lakewood, Colo.-based Natural Grocers’ 2021 celebration will take place over three days, March 2-4, during which time customers will receive free Texas-themed freebies, organic chocolate bars, and have the chance to win prizes by purchasing Texas-made products.

As cities and towns throughout Texas experienced days-long power and water outages and Texans face a dramatic increase in food insecurity, Natural Grocers has launched a customer-based give back program to help those impacted by the winter storms in Texas. From Feb. 22 through March 14, customers at all 160 Natural Grocers locations will have the opportunity to donate $1, $5 or $10 to support hunger relief in Texas.

Natural Grocers’ commitment to the communities it serves encompasses the makers behind the local brands it carries, the company said. For its Texas neighbors, the extensive inventory includes over 1,400 products from brands such as Siete, Pederson’s Natural Farms, Live Soda, White Mountain, Waterloo Sparkling Water, Natural Vitality, and Malk Organics.

“We’ve always appreciated how welcoming Texans have been since we opened our first store in Dallas in 2008,” said Natural Grocers co-President Kemper Isely in a statement. “Our community members have trusted us to provide them with only the best in organic and natural groceries, supplements, body care and household essentials and have turned to our knowledgeable and friendly … crew when they need help navigating their own health and wellness journeys. We are proud to celebrate Texas Independence Day with the diverse communities across Texas.”

Earlier this month, Natural Grocers responded to the unprecedented cold weather and winter storms that left a number of Louisiana cities without water, by inviting members of its Lafayette community to come in for free water from its store’s reverse osmosis filtration machine. The free water was available from Feb. 19-23. Due to capacity limitations of the store’s water filtration system, which can only pump 75 gallons of water every other hour, each person was limited to two free gallons of water.
