Portland, Ore.-based New Seasons Market, announced that it will open a new store in Milwaukie Marketplace—the third new grocery store the grocer is opening in the Portland area. The 28,000-square-foot store property at 10830 SE Oak St. is owned by an affiliate of Kimco Realty and once housed an Albertsons. New Season Market in a statement said the new store will create more than 100 new jobs and is expected to open in the fall 2023.

New Seasons Market is part of Good Food Holdings—the holding company for Lazy Acres Natural Market, Metropolitan Market, New Seasons Market, New Leaf Community Markets and Bristol Farms, which recently opened its Bristol Farms Newfound Market concept at the Irvine Spectrum Center in Southern California.

“As New Seasons Market continues to thoughtfully grow our community, Milwaukie is a natural choice for a new neighborhood market,” said Nancy Lebold, CEO of New Seasons Market, in a statement. “We’re thrilled to introduce ourselves to the neighborhood and connect the community to the best organic and locally sourced produce, meat and grocery staples.”

Located near the center of the city of Milwaukie along Highway 224, New Seasons Market said plans for a grocery store ranked as a top priority according to community surveys.

“To say this is exciting news would be a huge understatement,” said Mayor Mark Gamba in a statement. “We’re very happy New Seasons is coming to Milwaukie and eliminating a food desert in our community.” And as a certified B Corp, Gamba added, “New Seasons embodies fundamental values that are essential to us.”

As an organic and natural grocer that also works to reduce waste in local communities, New Seasons Market said the new store will feature local and organic produce sourced directly from Pacific Northwest farmers; a full-service meat and seafood department with ready-to-cook house recipes; chef-prepared seasonal deli options; a floral department; and local craft beer, wine and cheeses.

Founded in 2000, New Seasons Market, which operates 19 stores in Oregon, Washington and Northern California and employs nearly 3,500 workers, said it commits 10% of its after-tax profits to the communities it serves.
