Publix Continues its Home State Expansion with New Store in Jacksonville

Publix Food Markets on Thursday opened its newest Florida location at the Shoppes at East San Marco in Jacksonville. The 39,209-square-foot supermarket at 2039 Hendricks Ave Ste 325 features a multi-level shopping experience with a Publix Liquors and garage on the first level and the main store on the second level.

“We are excited to open our much-anticipated newest location in Jacksonville,” said Hannah Herring, Publix media relations manager, in a statement. “We look forward to providing a premier customer shopping experience along with the products and services our Jacksonville customers know and love.”

The store will offer departments for grocery, dairy, frozen food, seafood, meat and fresh produce as well as a full-service bakery, deli and pharmacy. In the produce department, the store will carry organic and conventionally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, with locally grown produce, Publix said.

Publix, which tallied $12.9 billion in sales during the second quarter over the year before, said the store will offer contactless pay options and convenient services such as grocery delivery (powered by Instacart) and pharmacy delivery.

Looking to expand curbside pickup beyond just groceries, Lakeland, Florida-based PublixPharmacy rolled out curbside pickup on Wednesday at stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Virginia, with select pharmacies excluded. North and South Carolina pharmacy locations plan to offer curbside pickup at a later date, Publix said in a statement.

The Lakeland, Florida-based grocer continues to expand its footprint in its home state. This past June, the retailer opened a store at the Crossings at Wildlight Shopping Center in Yulee, Florida. The 48,3870-square-foot store is located at 76010 William Burgess Blvd.

As one of the largest employee-owned grocers in the U.S., Publix employs more than 225,000 associates at its nearly 1,300 locations and is continuing its expansion in the Carolinas and Kentucky as well.
