Publix Super Markets is heading up the Atlantic coast.

“We are pleased to announce that Publix Super Markets has executed a lease on a new store location in Chesapeake, Virginia,” Publix Media Relations Manager Jared Glover said in a statement on Friday.

Publix at Dominion Station will be located at the northeast corner of Cedar Road and Dominion Boulevard. The store will be 48,387 square feet. It’s expected to open early 2025.

The Florida-based grocery retailer operates 19 stores in Virginia and as has more on the way, according to its website.

The Publix website lists a new store “coming soon” at Planters Station at 3189 Godwin Blvd. in Suffolk, Virginia.

On Thursday, the grocery retailer reopened its Daytona Beach, Florida, location. The almost 47,000-square-foot store located at 1500 Beville Rd. replaces an older Publix grocery store that was torn down a year ago.

Another state on the grocery retailer’s expansion list is Kentucky. It will be the eighth state for the fast-growing Florida retailer's portfolio and is a market dominated by long-established retailers Kroger and Walmart.

The first Kentucky store will be located in Louisville's Terra Crossing shopping center and is tentatively slated to open in late 2023.

As one of the largest employee-owned grocers in the U.S., Publix employs more than 225,000 associates at its nearly 1,345 stores.
