Publix Super Markets is edging one step closer to meeting its soon-to-be neighbors—Kentuckians.

The Florida-based grocery retailer launched Hello, Kentucky website on Wednesday for those interested in staying up to date with the details of the highly anticipated 55,701-square-foot store in the Terra Crossing Shopping Center in Louisville that's slated to open later this year. Located in Jefferson County at 2500 Terra Crossing Blvd., the new store in Kentucky will mark Publix’s expansion into its eighth state.

“This site is a one stop shop for Kentuckians to get to know who we are as a company, what we will be doing in the community and, of course, prepare for the ultimate Publix Super Market,” Publix said.

The website also features a video introduction and a place for those interested to sign up for the latest grand opening specials, products and other details. Publix Super Markets’ arrival in Kentucky comes on the heels of its expansion of new markets in the Carolinas and Virginia.

“Moving into Kentucky is a natural progression for our company, and we are excited to serve and be a part of this vibrant community,” Todd Jones, CEO of Publix, said in a statement announcing the grocer’s entrance into this new market.

The employee-owned retailer has other locations underway in Kentucky, including two more stores coming to Louisville and two planned for Lexington.

Publix’s debut in Kentucky will come with competition. The Kroger Co. has 104 grocery stores across 55 cities in Kentucky. In fact, according to its website, the Ohio-based grocery retailer has 23 grocery stores in Louisville.

Other grocery retailers making their mark in Kentucky include California-based Trader Joe’s. The retailer is building a 1 million-square-foot distribution center in Franklin, Kentucky, about 45 miles north of Nashville.

Abingdon, Virginia-based Food City is building a new state-of-the-art supermarket in South Williamson, Kentucky, to replace an existing store. The 51,300-square-foot grocery store in South Williamson is expected to open this fall.
