Employee-owned grocery chain Publix Super Markets this week opened its newest store in Miami, as it continues to enhance its presence in the South Florida region.

The 46,811 square-foot grocery store, which officially opened on Thursday, is located at the Crossings Shopping Village at 13001 SW 112th St. and features an adjacent liquor store.

The Lakeland, Florida-based grocery retailer now operates over 855 stores in the state, according to the its website.

“We are excited to welcome our customers to their new store at the Crossings Shopping Village and look forward to providing them with the premier service and quality Publix is known for,” said Lindsey Willis, Publix media relations manager, in a statement.

Last month, the grocer reopened its Fort Meyers Beach location that had been damaged by Hurricane Ian.

The Fort Myers Beach location at 4791 Estero Blvd. not only provided a welcoming feeling for shoppers but for its employees as well.

One Publix associate, Elda, a cashier who has been with the grocer for more than four years, had just moved back into her home in Fort Myers Beach the day before the store’s reopening.

Elda was displaced after Hurricane Ian, and her family spent the last several months rebuilding their home.

“There were so many customers I was reunited with at the reopening, too many names to mention,” said Elda. “It was an emotional time for me because it was the first time I learned they were alive and safe.”

Store manager Darryll Yarick echoed the sentiments on the return of serving the community: “As our community continues to rebuild, we are honored and privileged to serve our customers and welcome them back into our store.”
