Florida-based Publix Super Markets is closely monitoring Hurricane Idalia and its impact to the grocer’s operating areas, the grocer said this week.
“Our top priority is the safety of our associates, customers and communities, and Publix will remain open and continue to make product deliveries as long as it is safe to do so,” Publix Media Relations Manager Hannah Herring told WGB. “As Floridians, we are well aware of the impacts of weather-related instances and encourage our friends, families and neighbors to continue our culture of preparedness.”
The employee-owned grocery retailer on Wednesday continued with its new store openings, this time in Cumming, Georgia, which is 40 miles north of Atlanta.
The 48,387-square-foot supermarket at 3620 Era Drive is part of Publix's expansion plans in the state of Georgia, where it currently has 208 stores.
Located in Forsyth County, the new store offers departments for grocery, dairy, frozen food, seafood, meat and produce, as well as a pharmacy.
“We are very excited for the opening of our newest Publix at Tribble Crossing,” said Nicole Krauss, Publix media relations manager. “We look forward to continuing to provide premier service and quality products to long-time customers as well as welcome new ones from the community of Cumming.”
Earlier this month Publix opened two new stores in Florida, widening penetration in its home state as the Southeast grocery battleground heats up.
Publix is one of the country's largest employee-owned grocers, with more than 240,000 associates on its payroll.
