Unified Western Grocers in Los Angeles recently gave its 2006 Ben Schwartz Retail Visionary Award to Michael Provenzano Jr. (center), president of Pro & Son's, which operates the Ranch Markets chain targeting Hispanic consumers. UWG presents the award each year to one of its members in recognition of the food retailer's leadership and innovation. Ranch Markets "strive to re-create the festive atmosphere of a Mexican marketplace inside each one of their stores," UWG said, making them a destination for consumers seeking an "authentic Hispanic shopping experience." Pictured with Provenzano are his four sons (left to right), Steve, Michael, Rick and Jeff, who help run the business.
