MINNETONKA, Minn. — Haug Enterprises, a Supervalu franchise operator based here, is reporting benefits from LaneHawk, a bottom-of-the-basket loss prevention system from Evolution Robotics Retail, Pasadena, Calif.
Haug's stores are among more than 1,000 U.S. supermarkets comprising just under 10,000 lanes that are using the LaneHawk system, according to Evolution Robotics Retail. Also used in robotics applications, the system employs video analysis to identify and ring up articles in a shopping cart's bottom-of-basket to ensure they are not omitted from the order.
"The system has reduced our shrink and improved our operating income," said Douglas Winsor, president and chief operating officer, Haug Enterprises. "As an owner/operator, we are very focused on deploying high ROI, fast payback technology solutions, like LaneHawk."
At another operator, Wakefern Food Corp., Elizabeth, N.J., the technology "has been a proven success in the stores where we've tested it, and has helped to reduce bottom-of-basket loss," said Alan Aront, vice president, Wakefern. "We look forward to rolling it out to select ShopRite stores in the future."
