Save-A-Lot Moving to New HQ
The new location will house an additional 64 employees to be hired over the next three years.
Discount grocer Save-A-Lot will build a new corporate headquarters in St. Ann, Mo., state officials announced this week.
The new 165,000-square-foot space at the Crossings at Northwest will house its current operations, plus an additional 64 employees that the company plans to hire over the next three years. Save-A-Lot’s current headquarters is in Earth City, Mo., about seven miles away from the new location. Both cities are just outside of St. Louis.
“St. Louis has been home to Save-A-Lot for more than 40 years and we are proud to continue our association with this great city,” President and CEO Kenneth McGrath said in a statement. “Our desire to build for the future in state-of-the-art facilities with continued access to great talent on our doorstep underpins this decision. The Crossings at Northwest is the perfect fit for our new home.”
Officials said the company elected to stay in St. Louis even after taking on a nationwide search for a new location. The project is contingent on certain tax subsidies requiring local approval, including a 50% abatement on property taxes for 15 years and a one-time abatement on sales tax for new equipment, reports said. Save-A-Lot also received assistance from the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership and Missouri Partnership.
The location at Northwest Crossing is part of a mixed-use redevelopment previously known as Northwest Plaza, formerly a shopping mall. It’s approximately 15 minutes from the company’s current headquarters.
“We were pleased to work with Save-A-Lot in order to help ensure their corporate headquarters remained and grew in St. Louis,” said Steve Johnson, CEO of Missouri Partnership. “Save-A-Lot’s a great company and St. Louis is an ideal location for their headquarters, with extremely competitive business costs and immediate access to highly skilled talent.”
Save-A-Lot’s store and distribution network includes more than 1,200 corporate and licensed stores in 36 states, as well as 16 wholesale distribution centers.
