Save A Lot this week launched a Round Up at the Register program at its nearly 580 stores that benefits Feeding America, which estimates that an additional 17 million people may face hunger due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The program, which also address the nationwide coin shortage, invites costumers at checkout to round up their transaction—cash, check, debit or credit—to the nearest dollar amount to help end hunger in their communities as well as other local charities identified by the store.

“Now more than ever, local food banks need our help, and by joining forces with Feeding America to bring our Round Up at the Register program to life, we can help provide that much-needed support to our neighbors who need it most,” said Kenneth McGrath, CEO of St. Louis-based Save A Lot.

The program will generate a minimum donation of $100,000 to the Feeding America network. To date in 2020, Save A Lot has donated nearly 1.6 million pounds of food to Feeding America member food banks across the country. Through a network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs, Feeding America provides meals to more than 40 million people each year.
