Since the coronavirus pandemic’s stay-at-home orders shuttered restaurants across the nation, grocery stores have continued to step up to help out their foodservice counterparts by offering restaurant meals in stores.

St. Louis-based Schnuck Markets is one of the latest retailers to add such a partnership. Customers can find grab-and-go meals from local favorites such as Revel Kitchen, Crispy Edge, Seoul Taco, Nudo House STL, Crushed Red and Hot Box Cookies at select Schnucks locations.

“As a part of the St. Louis business community for more than 80 years, we feel we have an obligation to help those local restaurant entrepreneurs and their staffs who have been greatly impacted by the pandemic,” said Schnucks President and COO Dave Peacock. “Schnucks hopes that by supporting local restaurants that our customers will continue to support local businesses too.”

Customers can go to the Local Grab and Go section on the retailer’s website to find participating store locations and restaurants. Schnucks’ support of restaurants extends beyond the grab-and-go meals that are now available to customers. The company has also purchased in-store catering from more than 75 local restaurants to serve to Schnucks teammates at no cost to them.

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based SpartanNash’s banners also are offering support to local restaurants. Twenty-five Family Fare, D&W Fresh Market, Forest Hills Foods and Ada Fresh Market locations are offering heat-and-eat meals in the delis from eight local restaurants in western Michigan: Anna’s House, Big O’s, Cedar Springs Brewing Company, City Built Brewery, Donkey Taqueria, The Friesian Gastro Pub, Osteria Rossa and Westside Social. All proceeds go back to the restaurants.

“The cool thing about it is just to be able to create this opportunity for families to have an easy and unique cuisine at home,” said Meredith Gremel, VP corporate affairs and communications for SpartanNash, in a local news report. “We’ve got everything from German-Bavarian to Cuban to the Americana gastropub to iconic comfort foods, like all kinds of cool mac and cheese, ribs, and Anna’s even has a breakfast meatloaf.”

Customers can visit the restaurant Meals to Go page on the SpartanNash website to find participating stores and restaurants.
