Five SpartanNash stores–Family Fare and D&W Fresh Market stores in Allendale, Byron Center, Wyoming, Grand Rapids and Holland, Mich.–are now offering free COVID-19 testing in their pharmacies through a partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Testing is by appointment only.
“Our pharmacies continue to adapt to best respond to our customers’ needs during these uncertain times,” said Lori Raya, SpartanNash EVP and chief merchandising and marketing officer, in a release. “We are proud to offer this additional service to our customers and communities—free of charge—because we know how important testing is to our collective efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The tests are self-administered by customers, with pharmacists on hand to talk them through the nasal swab in the pharmacy drive-thru, following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for testing criteria. Results are available in three to five days.
Testing is available for both symptomatic and asymptomatic customers and SpartanNash front-line employees in accordance with state and local plans for public health monitoring. Appointments are scheduled online, and individuals are asked to first complete a short survey before scheduling their appointment date and time.
“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our company has maintained two top priorities: the well-being and safety of our family of associates, customers and communities; and supporting health officials and government leaders to contain the virus,” said Tom Swanson, SpartanNash EVP and general manager of corporate retail, in a statement. “By offering free COVID-19 testing, we are reinforcing our commitment to keeping our associates’ and customers’ health at the forefront of all our efforts.”
Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, SpartanNash pharmacies have adjusted operations to ensure the safety of store guests, offering walk-up vaccinations with additional safety measures and free, same-day prescription delivery at all company-owned pharmacies, as well as introducing reserved pharmacy hours for older adults, pregnant women and immune-compromised store guests in Michigan.
