Superior Grocers has made several leadership appointments to help guide the company's continued growth and success, the Southern California-based independent grocery chain announced on Monday.

Miguel Alarcon has been promoted to senior vice president of operations, and Tom Finn has been named senior vice president of marketing and merchandising. In his new role, Alarcon will continue to oversee the operations of Superior Grocers and The Market by Superior’s 49 locations, which together employ over 5,000 associates.

With over 40 years of experience in the retail industry, Alarcon began in grocery as a courtesy clerk and rose to a store director prior to joining Superior Grocers in 2016. He previously served as the regional director of operations at El Super and the VP of operations at KV Mart.

“We are pleased to promote Miguel Alarcon to SVP of Operations," said President and CEO Richard Wardwell in a statement. “His leadership and commitment to excellence have been instrumental in our success, and we look forward to his continued contributions."

With more than 35 years of experience in the retail grocery industry, Finn brings merchandising, marketing and customer experience savvy to his new role. Before joining Superior Grocers, he served as VP of center store at Northgate Markets and director of grocery at Stater Bros. Markets. He also held numerous positions with the Kroger Co. banners Food 4 Less and  Ralphs.

"We are excited to have Tom Finn join our team and lead our marketing and merchandising efforts," Wardwell said in a statement. "His expertise and experience will be invaluable as we continue to expand our offerings and enhance the customer experience.”

Founded in 1981, Superior Grocers now operates 70 stores throughout Southern California and the state's Central Valley under three banners: Superior Grocers, The Market by Superior and Numero Uno.
