Carlisle, Pennsylvania-based The Giant Co. opened its first store in Benner Township, Pennsylvania, on Friday, expanding its home-state footprint.

The new, ground-up, 50,000-square-foot store is located at 2699 Benner Pike in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, and employs more than 100 associates, the Ahold Delhaize banner announced.

“At The Giant Co., we are a neighborhood grocery store, but we are also members of the communities we serve,” said John Ruane, interim president of The Giant Co., in a statement. “The opening of our Benner Township Giant builds on our legacy of serving the State College community for more than 30 years, offering families convenience, meal solutions and savings to meet their lifestyles. Opening just in time for holiday celebrations, our new store reinforces our commitment to fulfilling our purpose of connecting families to a better future.”

Thomas “Woody” Woodring, a 43-year grocery veteran, is store manager of the new store.

“We are excited to open our doors to the greater Bellefonte community, and just in time for the holiday season,” said Woodring. “Our new store will feature the very best of Giant’s For Today’s Table brand, but especially our customer promises—simplify shopping, inspire fresh ideas and create healthier communities. Our team is here to help, and we will strive to create meaningful shopping experiences that helps families gather around the table.”

The new store will feature grocery essentials as well as departments in meat and seafood, bakery and floral. Benner Township customers will find Giant’s signature Beer & Wine Eatery, as well as a hot foods bar with smoked meats and sushi made in-store and an onsite fuel station.

The store will offer Giant Direct easy pickup or delivery and as part of the grocery retailer’s commitment to the local communities it serves, the Benner Township store is donating more than $10,000 to eight community organizations who share The Giant Co.’s purpose of connecting families for a better future, The Giant Co. said in a statement.

Founded in 1923, The Giant Co. family of brands includes Giant, Martin’s, Giant Heirloom Market, Giant Direct and Martin’s Direct.
