Whole Foods Market announced this week that its store near Grand Rapids, Michigan, is now open.

The new, 5,400-square-foot store, located at 2897 Radcliff Avenue SE in Kentwood, Michigan, opened Wednesday. The new location is Whole Foods’ eighth Michigan store, according to the company’s website. Other locations include: East Lansing, Ann Arbor, West Bloomfield, Rochester Hills, Birmingham and Detroit.

As with many Whole Foods Markets, the new store has a specialty department, full-service seafood and meat counters, prepared foods and a bakery. A full-service coffee bar is also available at the store, offering coffees, lattes, cold brew and teas, including seasonal summer and fall drinks like Mint Matcha Lemonade, Peach Oolong Tea and Pumpkin Spice Latte.

The location features more than 2,000 local items from Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin, chosen by Mike Neill, local forager for Whole Foods Market’s Michigan stores.

With the new location, Whole Foods will also expand its reach with their Whole Foods Market’s Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program, the company’s food-rescue effort announced in 2020 to “move food from where it’s available to where it’s needed most” via refrigerated vans, according to Whole Foods. The Green Apple Pantry, located in Grand Rapids, is one of the newest recipients of a Whole Foods Market’s Nourishing Our Neighborhoods refrigerated van. Currently, there are more than 20 vans across the U.S. and Canada.

Through Sunday, the Whole Foods Market will give back to the Grand Rapids and Kentwood communities by matching 100% of the proceeds from any local product purchased in the store (up to $5,000), and donating to Green Apple Pantry. From September 6-9, Whole Foods Market will donate 1% of each day’s total sales to benefit four local schools in Grand Rapids and Kentwood, and they will provide support for local non-profit organizations Fulton Street Market, Kids Food Basket and Heartside Gleaning as well.

Whole Foods Market has more than 500 stores in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Last week, Whole Foods opened a Pittsburgh location, and a Culver City, California, location is scheduled to open on August 31. California currently has the most Whole Foods Markets, with more than 90 stores, according to listings.
