RCM Technologies Canada, Ottawa, has been awarded the contract to manage the pilot logistics of a produce traceability pilot taking place in the United States and ensure it works in harmony with Can-Trace, Canada's traceability initiative, officials from the Canadian Produce Marketing Association, Ottawa, and Produce Marketing Association Traceability Task Force, Newark, Del., announced recently.
e results of the pilot being done in the United States, officials said.
Launched this summer, the U.S. pilot involves three partners from the produce industry: Hannaford Bros., the 122-store, Scarborough, Maine-based retailer, a unit of Delhaize America; NewStar, representing growers and shippers; and Sysco Foodservice, representing the distributor community.
Officials said the companies were selected to represent different sizes and technical capabilities, which is typical of the produce industry, as well as representing grocery and food service. The different dynamics of each company will enable those working on the pilot to identify options when implementing best practices for traceability, officials said. The pilot is slated for completion in September.
