ShopRite has introduced a line of gourmet-style meal kits available in select stores within the retailer’s six-state trading area.

In line with consumer demand for convenience, health and multicultural flavors, the packaged kits are available in several varieties including Thai Coconut Chicken, Chicken Marsala, Korean Beef Stir Fry, Moroccan Chicken and Pork Scaloppini.

“We know our shoppers want to enjoy healthy, delicious dinners, but finding the time to cook a meal from scratch isn’t always an option,” said Geoffrey Wexler, VP of food services at ShopRite, in a statement, adding that recent industry data shows that approximately 53% of dinners are planned within an hour of eating. “With the introduction of these meal kits, we’re able to offer our customers a simple way to create a five-star meal that is less expensive than a subscription service, doesn’t require advance planning or prep work, and can go from store-to-table in just one pan in about 15 minutes or less.”

Designed by professional chefs, each recipe features an entree that serves between two and four people, with ingredients such as fresh vegetables, a meat protein, olive oil and a signature specialty sauce. ShopRite said the meal kits meet USDA recommended dietary guidelines and have been approved by the retailer’s team of corporate and in-store dietitians.

The preportioned kits are the latest entry into ShopRite’s expanding portfolio of complete meal solutions. The retailer currently offers a large selection of restaurant-style, readymade meals under its signature brand, ShopRite Kitchen. Select ShopRites also offer a signature Meals Made Well food cart, which features all of the ingredients needed to create a “meal of the week” that is located in a stand-alone refrigerated case, using recipes inspired by ShopRite dietitians and corporate chefs.

The Chef’s Menu Meal Kit retails for approximately $13.99.
