VIDALIA, Ga. — The Vidalia Onion Committee here has announced 10 produce managers from U.S. supermarket retail companies as winners of the Sweet Rewards Merchandising Display Contest held May 1 through June 8. Winners of the grilling-themed merchandising contest included Eric Dodge, Hy-Vee; Aaron Fleming, Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co.; Timothy Hassler, Ferguson & Hassler; Lannie Kiser, Brookshire Grocery Co.; and Dee Mabry, also of Brookshire Grocery Co. In addition, one retailer — Abingdon, Va.-based K-VA-T Food City — had produce managers at five separate locations take the honors. Tony Gilliam, Angela Hopson, Lequitte Perry, Doyle Robinson and Lee Rose from Food City each received the award for displays judged on creativity, cross-merchandising opportunities, display size and location, and overall quality. “We were thoroughly impressed with the original and diverse uses of Vidalia onions in all of the winning entries,” said Wendy Brannen, executive director of the Vidalia Onion Committee. “It is evident how much time and creativity went into every detail.”
