Ben & Jerry's Renames Ice Cream Flavor in Honor of SCOTUS Ruling on Marriage Equality
January 1, 2018
Known for taking a stance with its values as much as its euphoric flavors and cleverly named products, Ben & Jerry’s is commemorating the United States Supreme Court decision, which made same-sex marriage a basic right for all Americans, by renaming its iconic Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream: “I Dough, I Dough.” I Dough, I Dough will be available in a special commemorative pint sleeve at participating scoop shops for a limited time. The commemorative pint sleeves can also be purchased online through the Human Rights campaign online with all proceeds benefiting the organization. Ben & Jerry’s has demonstrated a strong advocacy for gay rights and marriage equality seizing numerous opportunities throughout its 37 year history. In 1989, Ben & Jerry’s was the first company in the state of Vermont to offer full benefits to same sex couples, according to company officials. Over the years, at opportune moments, the company has used its business, programs, social mission campaigns and quirky flavors as a voice for the LGBTQ community. In 200,9 Ben & Jerry’s honorarily renamed its flavor Chubby Hubby to “Hubby Hubby” in support of legalized gay marriage in the ice cream maker’s home-state of Vermont. Most recently, Ben & Jerry’s joined 30 other companies and signed the Amicus Brief to the Supreme Court in support of the equality movement. “Ben & Jerry’s is proud of the Supreme Court’s landmark decision against discrimination as it boldly stands up for equality for same sex couples everywhere,” says Jostein Solheim, CEO Ben & Jerry’s. “And at Ben & Jerry’s, there’s only one way to celebrate: with a scoop of I Dough, I Dough, Marriage equality never tasted so good.”
