NEW YORK — FreshDirect here announced yesterday a move to boxes made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper, supplied by Southern Container Corp. FreshDirect began converting to the Southern Container boxes in April 2007 and will be fully transitioned at the end of May. Southern Container receives its own source of supply through its 100% recycled containerboard mill, Solvay Paperboard. "We know that many FreshDirect customers are environmentally conscious citizens and, with our new boxes, we can ensure that customers' orders are not only fresh and protected, but environmentally friendly," said Steve Michaelson, president and CEO of FreshDirect, in a company statement.
