ABINGDON, Va. — Shopping at Food City this holiday season is a treasure hunt. Literally.

The K-VA-T Food Stores banner has launched the “Holiday Treasure Hunt” for a chance to win $5,000.

Shoppers who purchase 10 Food City private-label items in one transaction earn a letter of the week. Those who get eight letters to spell the word “treasure” will be entered into a random drawing to win the $5,000. A first-prize winner will get $3,000; and a second-prize winner, $1,000.

Qualifying private-label brands include Food Club, Valu Time, Top Care and Paws.

The eight-week promotion kicked off in October and runs through Dec. 24.
